About us

The history of Steinfels Weinauktionen, the first and oldest company in Switzerland to specialise in the auctioning of wine, began more then a quarter of a century ago.

In the mid-seventies, Dr. Eric Steinfels was presented with the opportunity to put up for auction the contents of the wine cellar of Château de Penthes, one of the most beautiful stately homes in Geneva, which today is owned by the Canton of Geneva. The young pioneering company soon became an institution, equally valued by private wine lovers and collectors as by restaurateurs and wine merchants.

In February 2002, Dr. Eric Steinfels retired and transferred the assets of Steinfels Weinauktionen to the brother and sister team Corinne and Marc Fischer.

Before taking over the company, executive board president Marc Fischer worked in wine trading for many years, and Corinne Fischer contributes her marketing experience from the retail trade.

Marc Fischer’s right-hand man is Joe Frei, an established wine expert and wine trader. He has been a finalist at the Swiss wine tasting championships several times, thus proving his “a good nose”.

In subsequent years, the company continued to grow, especially as a result of new and improved services.

At the beginning of January 2006, Steinfels and Wolfi’s Weinauktionen merged. The merger of the two companies, under the name Steinfels Weinauktionen, creates Switzerland’s leading wine Auctioneer.

Marc Fischer, former auctioneer and general manager of Steinfels Weinauktionen, manages the new company. Former auctioneer and co-owner of Wolfi’s, Daniel Müller, contributes his expert knowledge to Steinfels and will remain with the new firm, bringing you the benefit of his know-how and experience, and ensuring continuity and optimal service.
At the beginning of August 2009 we moved to our new premises at Pfingstweidstrasse 6 in Zürich
